So basically I went out to my friend’s, got drunk, cried, ended up staying at his, made out with him for a little bit and then ended up having to come back home at 8 in the morning so I could go to school and take my exam at quarter to 9……You can say I had a very fun and interesting night. |

This might be just me being dumb but I think Dean going “Oh Cas….” when he sees the angels falling is not because he’s blaming Castiel for what’s happened. I think the way he said it was a bit too rueful for it to be blame. I think it was Dean feeling sorry for Cas, about how all of Cas’ multiple attempts to try and fix things have all failed, and this particular last one has finally managed to take away practically everything he had. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it was Dean pitying Cas. It didn’t seem belittling or patronizing to me, it wasn’t like Dean was saying, “Oh look at you go, messing up and failing again.” Hell, I couldn’t help but hear some traces of respect in there, like he respected what Cas had been trying to do and the endless efforts he’d put into it, even though it all ended up falling apart. I think this was more of a sympathetic sorry that Dean was feeling towards Castiel. He definitely knows what it’s like to always keep trying with all you’ve got to only have it all crumble down in your hands, so even though he has no idea what it must feel like to suddenly get downgraded into a human from a higher-form of being and how terrible it must feel to get separated from the rest of the angel’s presence and grace (along with his own of course), Dean at least knows about the feeling of failure and self-loathing that Cas is inevitably feeling at that moment. And maybe that’s what the “Oh Cas,” is about. Dean knows that Cas must be blaming it all on himself now, he knows how much Cas hates himself for having it all come to this. And maybe, just maybe, he doesn’t want Castiel to feel like that. Maybe the “Oh Cas,” isn’t an “Oh Cas, you did it again,” but an “Oh Cas, it’s not your fault.” ….so yeah, that’s what I think. |
